a French exchange student has offered to help me with my French this week and we corresponded by e-mail in French. I am confused by the above phrase though...I know what it means literally 'talk around a glass,' but is this slang for say, 'pint' for example. I just would like to know if it means alcohol and going to the bar will be involved. Merci

Yes the "parle" is a bit bad French, but you should be glad he was not using text speak, that would have been be really hard to decipher..
yup, he is asking you to join him to a place where one can drink a glass.. yes, most probably wine, beer or some other alcohol. You are free to take a soda though
He sure did not mean "let's grab a sandwich and coffee". On the other hand it does not mean he is asking you to get drunk with him or something. Go for it!
