Why isn't my crested gecko eating independantly?!?!?
She's a baby I think maybe a month old and she wount go to her food bowl and eat apple sauce of peach babyfood of cgd I have to put it on a spoon and hand feed it to her whyyyy?
John & JC, I have concerns for both of you.
John, you should not feed your crested gecko baby food, or anything like that such as apple sauce. You should feed it Crested Gecko Diet (CGD). It is a full complete formula. It is a powder which you mix with water, and they can eat that exclusively for their whole life and be healthy. You can purchase it at pangeareptile.com . Baby food is full of sugars, and will eventually lead to MBD (metabolic bone disease) which IS fatal. You should purchase the CGD and watch out for poop. You should also purchase a scale that measures down to .1g and check the geckos weight periodically to see if its eating. At that young of age you will not notice at all if they ate anything, so just look for poop and check the weight.
JC-You and NOT supposed to feed your crested gecko crickets exclusively or veggies. Veggies are not anywhere in their diet. In the wild they eat fruits and insects. However crickets do not have any good nutrients, even if your supplementing it with vitamins and calcium. You too should begin feeding it the CGD.
Pangeareptile.com has a VERY informative forum (along with the CGD) with very experienced reptile breeders who will ALL back me up that you two need to switch their diets. If there is no sign of poop and if its losing weight, then thats cause for concern John. It would then need to escalate. But as of now, I just believe you didn't know that they eat near to nothing at that age. Good luck to the both of you.
