I just got a tattoo the other day of a humming bird, it totally has meaning to me & i LOVE it & am really excited about it but now all of the sudden my friend of three years is telling me she is going to get a hummingbird in the same spot?! & it has NO meaning to her, she has always loved butterflies & fairies. & it bothers me sooo much! she also took my idea on how i was going to dye my hair & made it seem like hers. now we have the same hair color, & she always has to ONE up me! i know for a fact her family has nooo money right now but she is always trying to make it seem like they are so rich just to ME!
i need to get this off my chest to her but i dont know how i should put it. if i let it go it will eventually come between our friendship because i cant stand people trying to copy me, one up me, or make my ideas look like theirs!

yes, this would bother me and I did have a friend just like this. We are no longer friends..... however, maybe you should sit her down and just be honest. tell her that you know things are a little rough right now for her and tell her you will be there for her. but also talk to her about how you love the unique things she brings to the relationship. how you two compliment each other by being different individuals with our own ideas and opinions and that you admire her independant nature. explain that you feel that she is really trying to follow in your footsteps lately. let her know that imitation is the strongest form of flattery but honestly you would prefer she go back to bringing her own uniquiness to the table because you don't need a shadow you need a free-spirited friend. Also explain that the tattoo really is something special to you and suggest she find that special thing for her, because she is going to have this on her body for the rest of her life..... if it doesn't have meaning now it definately won't mean a thing when she is 60! but if she decides to go ahead and copy for tattoo... there is nothing you can do about it except feel flattered and feel sorry for her for not have an original bone in her body
