if you sick a metal rod, (lightning rod) in sand and its struck in a storm will this make glass figures?
if sticking a lightning rod into sand would conduct enough electricity/energy to transform the sand into glass would you just pull the figurine out and thats all there is to it; or would there be more work involved? also, would the figurine be a clear ornament or just a blob of dirty melted sand......for lack of better words. thanks to anyone who replies 
When the lightning lab in Florida was doing some of this stuff it put a rod in the ground, but attached a thin wire to a rocket and fired it into the clouds, lightning followed the wire and melted the quartz sand.

The results, fulgurites, will be bubbly, because of the air between the sand particles, and uneven in surface, but normally any extra sand can be brushed off.
